Looking Forward to Next Year

Our season was very good. We had lots of berries and had enough pickers and dry weather that they didn't have too much chance to go bad. We plan to expand the field some more next year.

We added raspberries again that will be ready next year also. We have a couple red varieties and a black variety. Hopefully they will do well also.

We want to thank all of you that support us in this endeavor.

Opening Day,May 20, 2014

We are opening a couple weeks early this year. It all depends on the weather and how the berries respond so sometimes we're left rushing around like chickens with our heads cut off. Not a pretty picture.
Our opening day will be Tuesday, May 20th. The berries are a little smaller on average this year but still very tasty. Our U-Pick price is $1.10/lb.
We added some red and black raspberries this spring so be thinking of us next summer for those. I think our motto for raspberries should be "If at first you don't succeed, plant again and again".
Hope to see you all this summer!

End of Season

It's the end of another successful season of strawberries. The patches did very well and we had steady pickers so that none were wasted. We thank everyone for their support and hope to see you all again next year.

Opening Day

It's a couple weeks earlier than normal but the strawberries are ripening and ready to be picked. We are opening the field on Monday, May 20th. The wonderful hot weather we had for 2 weeks really brought the berries on fast and they are delicious. We planted 6000 plants earlier this spring and they are blooming as we (electronically) speak. Looks like it's going to be a great year for the strawberries but, alas, we won't have any raspberries this year.

End of the Season

The end of strawberry season is upon us so the field will be shut. We thank you all for your support and hope to see you next year.

The raspberries are so pitiful as far as volume we aren't going to open up the field this year. We will have some next year in their new location where they won't get flooded. We are contemplating what to put in the old raspberry field. Of course it would need to like lots of water in the winter. We'll keep you posted.

Thanks again!

Planting Raspberries

With the help of  3 people all 750 new raspberries were planted last week. It only took a few hours. Of course, it turned out hot and dry since then and we've rushed around getting drip-lines on the rows to water them.  Hopefully the berries will like their new home and it will yield a better crop for us. Sadly part of the patch we started out with has completely died because of it being too wet. The crop will be more sparse this year since these new canes won't have a lot of yield on them, but next year should be abundant.
The strawberries are growing nicely and the older plants have been blooming like mad so we should have an excellent crop this year. Check in with us in 2-3 weeks for updates on when the strawberries are ready.

Featured Recipe:
Chocolate Covered Strawberries
So easy and so good...

Ingredients:
- 16 ounces milk chocolate chips
- 2 tablespoons shortening
- 1 pound fresh strawberries with leaves
- 8 oz white chocolate chips, optional

Directions:
1. Insert toothpicks into the tops of the strawberries.
2. In a double boiler, melt the milk chocolate and shortening, stirring occasionally until smooth. Holding them by the toothpicks, dip the strawberries into the chocolate mixture.
3. Turn the strawberries upside down and insert the toothpick into styrofoam for the chocolate to cool.
4. For a fancier look: Melt white chocolate chips, drizzle over the strawberries, and reinsert in styrofoam to cool.
